Why should I choose Ascension?

Ascension is open to supporting all clients but, we have a passion for supporting neurodivergent clients with their mental health. This means we take a neuroaffirming approach to our therapeutic services.

Neurodivergence refers to natural differences in how brains work. It includes ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other conditions that affect thinking, learning, and experiencing the world. While these differences come with unique strengths, they can also bring challenges—especially in a society built around neurotypical expectations. Many neurodivergent people face anxiety, depression, and burnout from constantly adapting to a world that misunderstands them.

Not all therapy is designed with neurodivergent minds in mind. Traditional approaches often assume neurotypical ways of thinking, feeling, and communicating—leaving neurodivergent individuals feeling unseen or pressured to “fit in.”

Neuro-affirming therapy is different. It meets you where you are, recognises your experiences, and helps you navigate challenges without forcing you to mask or suppress who you are. Instead of trying to “fix” you, the right therapist will help you embrace your strengths and develop tools that actually work for you.

If you’re neurodivergent, therapy can provide a space where you feel truly understood and supported. Whether it’s managing anxiety, handling burnout, or figuring out what works best for your brain, the right therapist can make all the difference.

You deserve a therapist who gets it—who won’t just offer generic advice but will work with you to create strategies that fit your life. If that’s what you’re looking for, let’s talk.

What is counselling?

Counselling or Therapy are forms of mental health treatment that involve talking to a Psychologist about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The goal of these is to help you understand yourself better, manage your emotions, and resolve any issues that may be affecting your mental health and well-being. Some issues might include:

What happens in a session?

During a therapy session, you will meet with a psychologist in a confidential and supportive environment. Your psychologist will listen to your concerns, help you identify your thoughts and feelings, and provide you with tools and strategies to cope with stress and improve your mental health.

The exact process of therapy can vary, depending on the type of therapy and the specific needs of the individual. Some common forms of therapy include:

Your therapist will work with you to determine the best approach for your specific needs and goals.

What are the benefits?

Counselling and therapy can bring a range of benefits, including:

The number of sessions an individual needs in order to achieve their goals varies.

Some may only need 1-2 sessions, however research has shown us the most clients will need 10+ sessions in order to meet their goals.

As a result, Ascension generally requires a minimum booking of 6 initial sessions to ensure better outcomes and that no disruptions affect your therapeutic journey.
