We are a Melbourne-based practice providing person-centred psychological support. Our three distinct areas of focus are assessments, men’s counselling and South Asian counselling.
We are a psychological practice providing affirming and person-centred assessments and therapy. We believe that we all have unique differences that need to be supported, and that these are a natural part of human diversity. These beliefs underpin everything we do.
Ascension strives to work with all individuals but has three distinct areas of focus:
Ascension offers a wide range of neuroaffirmative psychological assessments in order to help you better understand yourself, your neurodiversity and your needs.
Men are often reluctant to seek help with their mental health. We are passionate about providing humanistic, understanding and psychological support to all men.
Culturally-Sensitive Therapy is available for South Asians in need of relatable, compassionate psychological support.
All of Ascension’s assessments employ a neuroaffirmitive approach to diagnosis.
Here’s what we do.
Ascension's Autism Assessments are focused on understanding an individuals unique communication style and sensory preferences in order to provide appropriate support.
We focus on understanding an ADHDer's challenges with self-regulation and provide recommendations to create clarity.
We provide comprehensive educational assessments in order to assist individuals with difficulties in reading, spelling, decoding or mathematics.
Cognitive potential refers to a person's innate abilities and capacities to think, learn, and process information. This assessment may be useful if you suspect an Intellectual Disability or Giftedness.
This refers to an individual's ability to regulate their emotions, engage in positive social interactions, and build and maintain meaningful relationships. Assessments are useful for when Mood or Personality factors are impacting an individual's qualify of life.
We understand the major barrier to undertaking an assessment can be the cost, and that some people just want to understand their own neurodiversity. Which is why we offer reduced cost Brief Autism Assessments for adults.
In Australia currently 50% of all men will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives. Furthermore ¾ suicides are men and yet men are still less likely to seek help than females. Our team is familiar with current clinical research that indicate client drop outs and better client outcomes from therapy.
Which include being goal orientated, relatable and transparent. We tailor our intervention in accordance with this literature.
Sri Lankans and South Asian migrants appear to experience high rates of mental health problems but lower rates of help seeking due to factors such as country of birth, family characteristics and gender.
South Asian’s often struggle with external and internalized negative stigma. Ascension strives to have an ethnocultural understanding of mental health and therefore, able to consider these factors during therapy to lead to better engagement.
